It was initially reported in May that SHINee had been the only Korean artists invited to the Japan’s “MTV Video Music Award Japan,” more commonly known was VMAJ. However, with the release of SNSD’s 1st Japanese album, it has been determined that SNSD will also attend the VMAJ.
Due to Japan’s disaster March earthquake, the award show has been retitled to “MTV Video Music Aid Japan” and are currently taking donations through their website (http://www.mtvjapan.com/vmaj/en/).
In April, SNSD released their 3rd Japanese single “Mr. Taxi” and has gained a lot of popularity in Japan.
SHINee has yet to make their official debut in Japan, as their first Japanese single will be released in late June. However, they have gained recognition in Japan with their highly anticipated “Replay” single and music video.
“MTV Video Music Aid Japan” will be hosted by Japanese girl group AKB48 and feature many artist such as global pop star Lady Gaga, as well as EXILE, Nishino Kana, Japanese rock band Monkey Majik, popular German rock band Tokio Hotel, and British rock band One Night Only.
Meanwhile, SNSD has been have been nominated for “Best Group Video,” “Best Video of the Year,” “and “Best Karaokee! Song” for their song “Tell Me Your Wish (Genie).” Last year, Big Bang took home three gold medals for “Best Collaboration” (W-inds. featuring G-Dragon “Rain Is Fallin’”), “Best New Artist,” and “Best Pop Video” for “Koe o Kikasete.”
The award show is set to be televised on June 25th at 6PM from the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan. MTV VMAJ will be televised in Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the Philipines, and 9 other countries.
Any online and mobile voting will cost 10 yen, which will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross to help towards the Japan recovery.
